its been a while since i posted a portrait! dillon can hate on this all he wants but i think my exact words when i looked at the back of the camera were, "oh my gosh look how attractive you are!?" God created some gems thats for sure, and i know them all.

Portraits | Self, Tara and Jane | Light Study

5/21/14

you might remember a while back i went a little crazy in my basement and set up a studio with stacks of books and desk lamps. i don't get to play around with photography much anymore. life has been keeping me busy!

so i spent a whole day in my basement, trying different things, playing around with different things, learning a little about light. can i tell you how much fun i had?! i was in giggles fits all day because it was that much fun.

and when i say a whole day, i do mean a whole day.

i started with self portraits, (i don't do these much because i feel so conceded.) i felt like as an artist i should at least try to experiment with these. i actually did a lot and think they turned out pretty neat. next i got tara down there and that was really fun to work with a model!

we also had a pretty good playlist going on and i think that helped with posing. by the time we got jane to the basement my friend noah (who has a pretty neat blog he just launched here!) was there and took over the camera. so i think the shots we have of jane were all taken by him.

i love that i have creative friends who love doing this stuff with me. i would highly recommend trying this out! i think i learned a lot about angles and shadows just by messing around! let me know if you try because i want to see your work!

in honor of national dance like a chicken day, my portrait this wednesday is baby chickens. before they become chicks even.

okay really these are eggs out of my fridge but i couldn't find any real chickens to photograph. don't forget to use the hash tag, #may14chickenlove i have already seen so many pictures of chickens from friends on facebook! i feel so very supported!

i have an idea of what i will be giving away! so you really might want to participate!

a special thanks to all you chicken farmers out there.

my friend. my laughing company. my singing buddy. my knot-getter-outer. my dance partner. my snuggle bug. my sister in Jesus. i love you so much deerest, and i have loved living with you for the past two years.

lets be friends forever.

A few for the Lighting books.

i don't know what to write about today. i am seriously under prepared for this week. yesterday i spent literally an entire day playing with light in my studio/basement. i can't wait to show you, they are the most fun pictures i have taken in a while.

but it was seriously all day. and i was pretty giddy about it. throw in some breaks in there where i sat in the living room chair hurting from the insides and you have my day as a whole.

i am currently experiencing some health issues.

but really. yesterday made me so thankful to be an artist. it made me so thankful for the joy of creativity and the fun of seeing the rules in light and working with them. so many people think that art is just whatever you feel. they have no idea how much thought and theory goes into it. and thats where i get so much happiness. i love knowing why things work. i love trying out rules and seeing the outcome.

it really was fantastic.

if we are friends on facebook you have already seen this one, but here are two fun pictures from my first round of self portraits.

i wish you could have been there to watch. i don't own a tripod to there were boxes and paint cans and books stacked up for my camera to sit on safely. i used a regular desk lamp and every single white canvas i own.

i can't even tell you how much fun it was.

i'll write a full post about it hopefully next week sometime. there are so many pictures to share!

i will never ever get enough of this one. i think this portrait captures her to the very soul. all her laughter, all her fun. she is one of the most wonderful girls i've ever known.

today it is pouring rain and i have a lot of studio work to do and also a ton of editing. so i'm actually very thankful for the rain. it will be great to work to. Jesus knows what we need.

i needed a project okay? i will go crazy if i don't have a least one thing artistic to accomplish each week. since stopping common grounds i have felt like something is missing and that has been so hard for me. i decided to keep it simple. wednedays will be portrait days. something small, mostly for me as an artist to express myself. all that and because i have such attractive people in my life i need to photograph. here is the first one, my nephew on the tire swing.
